Day 42 – Phnom Penh

Took a 3 hour bus up to the capital Phnom Penh
Went to go see the Choeung Ek Killing Fields. These were similar to the killing caves we saw in Battambang where the Khmer Rouge performed their executions of the Khmer people. This is one of the 300 killing field found throughout the country.
Mass grave of 450 victims.
Excavated remains
The killing tree where many babies were thrown against and killed
This was built to hold and honour the remains of all the dead. Over 10,000 people were killed at this killing field
Enjoyed the views of the city at a rooftop bar
Found a restaurant that specialised in only spring rolls

One response to “Day 42 – Phnom Penh”

  1. The skyline of Phnom Pehn that I remember looks very different than what it is today. Today’s skyline looks like a very modern thriving city. What I remember of Phnom Pehn is the news reports of the killing fields.
    Love you and miss you.

    Safe travels!
